You’d have to say at least 8 or 9 of that team should be in anyone’s all time XI, it’s unquestionable.

What about most supremely talented player who was here for a sustained period of time?

Shinton a great flair player but was never top flight material.

Bryan Hughes played most of his career in the second tier.

Joey won the European Cup and the league title.

Surely you’d struggle to look past Mickey Thomas to be honest. He went straight from here and played in the top flight for 3 seasons for Man United as a regular starter, it would be unheard of these days.

In my lifetime, Carlos. He was obviously lower Premier League/Championship quality and stuck with us for years. Fergie was Championship quality from what I remember of him too.

Those 2 (and Trundle, but more briefly) are the best players I’ve seen here in the past 20 years for sure. Ferguson ran the team on field for Flynn and then Smith. Smith’s legendary 3-5-2 was set up to maximise all 3 of those keys players and get them in their perfect position. Ferguson in a 2 man midfield would never have worked for him to play as brilliantly as he did that season IMO.
