Default Sunday paper article

I know this was in one of the Sunday papers and must be taken with a pinch of salt, but it went on to say. Football League owners are looking into a major shake-up ahead of the next season.

Senior figures of League one and two-level are pondering a move to regionalise the divisions to cut costs.

A return to North and South tables - last done in the old Third division in 1958 - is on the cards. Many like the sound of fewer travel expenses and Hotel stays while adding more local derbies.

This leads to an interesting line= Top National League sides could also be involved. Now if this means top clubs with good attendances etc it's us, but, if it means top sides as in leagues positions, well, one point off the relegation stop does not look great.
Thoughts.

Won’t happen. There are all kinds of over dramatised rubbish being written about how the world will be different after the bug . It won’t.

This time next year we will still be complaining about the Board and how they have wasted another year after we head for a mid table finish. We will still be arguing over whether Rutherford should have been given a contract for 20-21. We will still be saying that it’s about time Doug Tharme was given a run in the team. Plus ca change, plus c’est las meme chose.

And 'Foxy' will still be whining like a little b*tch, about Trust ownership.

I think that will be 95% of the fan base won’t it ? That leaves 3% who are mates with Saint Peter, 1% who are mates with Harris, and 1% who were absent from school on the day brain cells were given out. Which one of those groups are you in ?

If it came to North and South leagues I believe Wrexham would be selected as they are basically in a sound financial state than other teams who could be in real difficulty when eventually football resumes.

Been a big fan of a possible league shake up for years.
It all makes sense.
Regionalize the leagues - bonuses are aplenty.
Less travelling, no hotel overnight bills, higher attendances - more money to spend - derby matches galore.
Being in the same league as the likes of Dover Athleic, Torquay United, Eastleigh and the like - playing infront of crowds below 1,000 and incurring avoidable expense and time just getting there and back has no appeal to me especially at this level and I simply wont do it.
Many clubs have been creaking and folding in recent years, struggling financially and the pyramid system has just blindly plodded on.
Is there anyone out there who seriously gets excited about an away league match at Dover Athletic ?

Even if there is say a shake up and by some chance we do end up back in the league with our current set up and clueless coaching staff we will be relegated back down after one season. You just need to look at how poor we have been this season to see we do not stand a chance in League 2 with our current set up.

Agreed if it was simply L2 and the top end of the National League - but it isn't enough.

I would rather be in a league with regional opponents from the north west & midlands such as York City, Kidderminster, Southport, Chester under the Umbrella of 'North' with perhaps L2 clubs (Morecambe, Macclesfield etc) - and all the soft southern shandy drinkers in another pot.

If we proved ourselves and were good enough on and off the field then the reward could be promotion to a higher league - perhaps the current L1 - some would argue that standards would fall but with the extra cash injection things might even go the other way and improve - and lets face it when the current situation is over football at our level is going to need all the help it can get - which doesn't include away league fixtures at Dover Athletic (a short boat ride away from France).
