Players locally we missed

My Grandson was playing a tournament organized by Connahs Quay and it was held just behind there pitch and I started to talk to one of the coaches, then he goes on to say there Acadamy was the biggest in North Wales and takes in all the Wrexham lads. How true that was I don't know.

We stopped short of an academy which was the ambition during the Flynn era with very few smaller clubs having academies and which are becoming even more difficult with the bottom falling out of player sales. We do need to get back up to the status our CoE had back then but its chicken and the egg, do we invest now or when we get back in the league with EFL funding.

I don’t see what the issue is in getting one really. As far as I’m aware you only need a UEFA A Licence coach and a Goalkeeper coach put their name to it. Most clubs use it as cash cows.

I coached at one a few years back that recycled the kits year on year, plastic goals that collapsed when you moved them, all the academy teams training on one pitch at the same time only having 1/6 of a pitch to train. Even despite all that parents throw money at it. Ours charged £150 per player for that set up.

To be fair Connahs Quay do have a good set up, can see why parents are desperate to get them in there.

I offered Paige a contract at Wrexham myself when he was an u8 but Wrexham couldn’t compete with teams like Man Utd even then, and certainly can’t now.

Lots of players you hearing about at other clubs
Charlie Caton, Scott Buttler, etc were all with Wrexham and also another one to watch out for is Iwan Roberts who’s now with lIverpool having been with Wrexham from u7’s-u14’s

Also why would any player stay when there is no path way for youth at the club? and hasn’t been for sometime ! Also the youth team have to play in a college league

yes and Charlton think he was a brickies labourer, Ian Griffiths I think his name was played for Man C he had relations in Penycae
