Re: Promotion and relegation
Will the football club continue I think is a big question now. The more the weeks go on it seems that clubs in the lower divisions are really feeling the lockdown squeeze is having a fundamental bearing on their survival. I believe the majority of supporters don't want to risk coming out of lockdown at present, and until a vaccine is found it will continue indefinitely, can you imagine going to the racecourse to watch a game soon,if it where possible, not many would go,the worry of catching covid outways watching a game. Can anybody see lower League football returning in the immediate future not for a long while maybe 12 months? and that's just an optimistic guess. Maybe clubs will have to be mothballed until it's safe to open up again and resume playing but it will be a vastly different format to what we've known.

Or, a more rounded view of HMG thinking might be this: Pros of letting the PL resume 1. A sign of some normality returning therefore good for public morale 2. Something for people to watch therefore good for public morale 3. An early test of whether lockdown easing results in a CV spike (hopefully not) 4. An acknowledgement that contracts and money are important as they make the world go round and something should be done to assist the PL if that can be achieved without undue risk to public health (until hugs and kisses become the recognised currency of exchange, we all have to face the fact that most things boil down to money) Cons of letting the PL resume 5. It may encourage lockdown breaking 6. Strain on NHS resources (not sure that argument actually holds much water now but it seems to have public recognition) 7. Danger of coming out too soon and 2nd spike being blamed on this and other easing measures Who'd be a politician? |

Re: Promotion and relegation
I have difficulty getting my head around the endless debate as to whether the season should finish and even more discussing promotion and relegation . I have been clear on these things since the football stopped. Simply finish it where it stopped and start again when safe to do so . At our level for sure. At the highest level where TV can cover behind closed doors that will work but no doubt the government see that as a morale booster to counter lockdown and not appeasing the wider game of football.

If we ignore the naive view that everything in the world is on hold until there is a vaccine / cure / effective treatment, then the question becomes one of balancing risk and reward. And part of that process is deciding when particular facets of life can re-start, hence the debate on a football forum about when football can re-start. |

No decision by the National League in their meeting today, they are waiting for the EFL to make a decision first.....and on and on it goes

Better just null and void the season than go down that route |
