Default Wilkin

I’m bored.

Granted he couldn’t manage half of them effectively but was he a transfer wizard? The complete list of players he brought here according to transfermarkt.

Moult - Nothing needs to be said
York - Scored 10 goals in 15-16, we’ve not had a winger as good since.
Joe Thompson - personal issues, not sure he played a game for us
Hunt - loan from Cambridge, solid player now we look back
Dan Collins - young centre half, don’t recall him playing
Storer - excellent midfielder at the level and could have replaced Keates, left us and captained Cheltenham to the title
Flatt - loan from Wolves, good young keeper
C Jennings - superb player
Holman - top forward at the level most of the time, went on to score 30 goals for the champions the following season.
James Etherington - I literally do not remember him
Liam Sharpe - Young keeper for cover, not sure he played
Morris - on loan from Walsall, simply a quality footballer
Tancock - Young defender on loan
Hudson - liability to be honest
J Pearson - on paper good but was bad news
Kisitu - do not recall
Manny Smith - nothing to be said
Sean Smith - youngster
Waterfall - top centre half and another who went to captain champions at this level

90% of these players were very good players. Obviously bitten by the Wrexham bug of turning shite on arrival but how was he able to attract this sort of quality? Was it him or did he have someone within the club suggesting these players or indeed getting these sort of deals over the line?

On a serious note I think Wilkin was a potentially top class manager with an eye for a player who was totally let down by his bosses, and undermined by some senior players.

His moult signing was some shrewd business too

Dan Collins was that lad from NZ that someone on here recommended to the club? Played in preseason vs Blackburn?

He should have been given more time and an experienced assistant

The club also should have backed the manager and not allowed player power when senior players led by Keates were constantly stabbing him in the back

Has done quite well at Brackley too

Would take him back over Keates every day of the week

He let himself down with bizarre team selection and similar to Keates quite dour tactics. Hindsight is marvellous but I still thought he was out of his depth at the time.

Setting aside the players who played in out 98 point season, some of those lads are the best we have had in the conference.

Seconded - some players wanted him ousted and they got their way.
