However, the fanbase will not give Keates time. If he didn't hit the ground running he would have no honey-money period, he took us backwards as far as we could go

It makes the decision to bring him back even more crazy as now we're in a situation where many won't return if he's still manager next season

Dean Sauders built the best team we have had at this level so he is number one for me. Yes he had money or so they say, but he did manage to get us playing 100 times better than the shambles we are watching now. Then I'd say Morrell, as he was a decent manager just really poor pulling power to het the right players in. He did manage us to our fa trophy win. 3rd would be ricketts, it was coming together nicely before the farmers came and spoilt it.

Was it Morrell’s own “pulling power”, or the clubs willingness to pay the going rate that was lacking?

I’d say mainly the latter.

This is such a pointless thread. Comparisons of so-called managers at different times, under different circumstances is a nonsense. Every one of them has failed to get us out of this tinpot league.

Football is about winning - to many seemingly go home from the racecourse happy to “still have a club”. The 50/50 draw and raffles don’t win football matches . Neither does sinking 6 pints in “Jonesy's bar” before the game. Winning is all that matters. Who wants to be anything other than number 1? Second best (or in our case 20th best) is not something that should be accepted.

Agreed, Little completely threw the towel in.

Default Re: Rank Our Managers

1. Ricketts - professional who got forced out before he could take us up
2. Morrell - managed us to our highest points tally and only play off final. Also won us our only trophy while we have been down here. Dodgy in the transfer market
3. Wilkin - very good in the transfer market but couldn't handle the 'old guard' at the time. Possibly sacked too early but everyone wanted him gone. His training methods were supposedly poor too
4. Saunders - let's not kid ourselves, he wasted more cash than any other manager and went through over 100 players before assembling the right team
5. Mills - banter era of managers now, played some brilliant football early on but ultimately an alcoholic fraud
6. Keates - left us in a decent position the first time, but the football is diabolical. Made our best signing in years in Shaun Pearson
7. Hughes - ridiculous hire but kept us in the play off positions in his first season. 2nd season, he would have taken us down
8. Barrow - didn't want it and we didn't want him. Another ridiculous hire
9. Little - wasted our parachute payment and took the job for nothing more than a payday
10. Davies - and by quite a way. You may as well have had me in charge

Our non league managers ranked in my order are

1) Ricketts
2) Saunders
3) Wilkin
4) Morrell
5) Mills
6) Little
7) Keates
8) Hughes
9) Barrow
10) Davies

Does anyone have a different list?
Just 1 temporary manager un named in this post,, anyone name him ?
