Default WST Statement: Season ticket refund update

Several members have contacted us on this subject and it has been discussed at Board level. Our estimates are that a full refund would see a cost to the club of around £100k.

At this stage we are in lockdown and cannot make any firm decisions regarding refunds. A further practical issue is that all of our staff are furloughed and we have nobody to manage the transactions.

When the situation becomes clearer and the lockdown is lifted there will be a further communication regarding this matter.

£100K assumes - as stated by them - a FULL refund. That's a problem for any organistion considering a move like that, and we already know from many earlier posts on the subject that many ST holders do not want a refund, preferring that the money be used for appropriate club purposes.

As they have stated, "when the situation becomes clearer... there will be a further communication on this matter."

While that might be the only option for them from an accountancy perspective, I do feel for those few ST holders who may be desperate for cash by now - let alone then.

No need. We could do without having to dip into so soon, but maybe now is the time to release some funds from the Danny Ward account to tied us over.

I can’t see how you could not refund a percentage of season ticket fees based on what has not been played, you can’t take money for something that hasn’t been delivered, no matter how damaging. There’s no doubt a vast majority would not require this refund, but people’s circumstances are different. There’s no sign of football being played this year, we now become a resource for the community, so the sooner money is refunded to the ones that need it the better.

There is a consumer rights issue here - people have paid for a product that was not delivered in full. However harsh there is a lawful element under the Consumer Rights Act of 2015. If a service is not delivered to the level expected it must be bought to the level expected or a refund must be offered. The club unfortunately has a lawful duty to provide refunds that it cannot ignore. Each consumer has the right to reject the refund if their financial position is such that they feel they wish to keep it but a refund legally must be offered.

Lockdown is no barrier to the board discussing all these issues that are popping up, one after another but it stops them from making a decision on offering a partial refund?

Nobody is asking for a full refund, most people aren't even asking for a partial refund. As a community club though it'd be nice if they thought of their community and those who are down to the bare bones financially.

What situation needs to become clearer? This season is over with ffs.
