Which bonehead came out with that one, was it that Mike Hughes??

Not sure if it was Mike 'its all about me' Hughes although that does sound ridiculous enough to have come from him.
He still posts on So78 forum and he hasn't changed one bit, he can still bore you to death with a single unnecessarily long post.

I thought it was Horne/rest of board's decision to bring Darlington in to assist Wilkin?

I recall Keates being injured prior to the final then at his age was if by magic fit enough to play the whole game. To put it bluntly he was sh*t that day, little wonder he got subbed off never mind his 'injury' woes that season too.
Odd recollection of the final. We were bossing it and 2-0 up when Keates was taken off and "One Of Our Own" came on and we lost control in midfield. The rest is history as they say.

Yup, that's how I remember it too.

Keates blamed Wilkin for his 'injuries' apparently had him doing too much running. You all may recall it was a critism under Morrell the team wasn't fit enough to last the distance.

Keates also ironically complained about the lack of 11 a side training games, during his first stint he reduced the playing side to the point where that can't be done.

You know it's rubbish? Ricketts was on the phone to Barrow tapping him up to move to Shrewsbury hence his resignation, one Harris knew about days before the meet the manager and would fit with Barrow not working elsewhere for 6 months. The 6 months being standard in a LMA contract.

The midfield was useless all game, it was all season. We were lucky the opposition favoured hoof ball and I bet the matchday thread says the same. I recall it being very nervy until going 2-0 up and Jennings fluffed his lines 3 times.
