Most of the present squad who are soon to be out of contract, are understandably worried. The first few on my list to go are Dibble and Rutherford. Dibble is a young guy with potential, but he just has not progressed in his time here. Early this season, when Lainton was injured, many points were thrown away due to Dibbles performances. I have mentioned Rutherfords weaknesses many times before. Running around a lot, does not disguise the fact that (for a winger) he cannot outstrip a full back, or has a physical presence, marginally greater than a year 10 in a High School!
Akil Wright is another great prospect that just has not progressed, and he has to go.
In a nutshell, our problems last year were up front rather than in defence. Supposed attacking players should be looking at themselves, as they failed to generate chances/goals. I am sure that training and tactics were a major reason why our performances were dour for a large part of the season. I don't feel that Keates has the ability to change his system/style so for me, its bye bye Deano. And, Pep Darlington needs to sling his hook as well.
All these so called players with potential, why have they not attained it? May I put forward one word coaches. If this is not the case these players should have long gone.

Ability-wise, he’s a decent player at this level but no more than that. Kennedy is a better footballer in my opinion. Lawlor is behind both Pearson and Kennedy in terms of ability. What I would say is, it would be very difficult to find a player of his ability with his leadership skills at our level.

To finish, there are other areas on the pitch that require far more attention. Anything further forward than centre back has been neglected in recent years - clearly finance causes this issue. Quality higher up costs more.
In my opinion I don’t think he’s that good anymore. How many scrappy goals have we conceded last season? He shouts and seems a good guy off the pitch but a centre back captain and we leak goals isn’t good. Does he have control of the guys either side of him and in front of him?

I’d feel the same if it was a striker as a captain if the team isn’t scoring why isn’t he raging at the team for not playing the correct balls or correct forward runs? To be fair every year Keates was captain we controlled midfield, proper leader. Glen Little used to run the team by pointing, Creighton took no prisoners. They were leaders.

I personally think we can do better than Pearson. Like you said no more than a decent player, shouldn’t he be the lynchpin of the squad? Before last season I’d say he’s a class captain, most clean sheets in the league.

I'd be happy with keeping Laiton, Pearson, Kennedy, Harriss, Young, Dunn & Jarvis. The rest can go need to re-start, a younger squad, desperate for some pace also haven't had any for years.
Get rid of Darlington too

That’s so very right, some who are good enough will move on and do better than they did here. A good manager improves his people and gets more out of them and that’s the case in all walks of life. If you are encouraged and supported by your bosses you work harder and better, if you are not inspired and given little training on where you can improve then your level stays the same or just gets worse.

Like many of us have noted that nine acre is empty and unused most days of the week. You really do get what you pay for, crap management with mostly crap players and those that could actually deliver a performance don’t have the leadership to inspire them to to achieve better.

Chesterfield released all players out of contract, but then immediately re-engaged with players they wanted to resign.

I imagine this is how it will work across the board in the lower leagues, and hopefully players lower their expectations on wages etc, otherwise there are going to be a lot of out of work come kick off - whenever that will be!

All pointless talk for us whilst the useless club board remain in place and Keates is the manager and Pep Darlington is still here. It'll just be the same old shite served up but with different faces. Talk about futile.

Anyone who wants to keep 'Ruthers' is indulging failure and desperately needs educating.
How many seasons of utterly pointless running around and achieving absolutely fck all will it take for the penny to drop?

Staggering stupidity. Fooled by a lot of running about.

Has Gobby Brant made a decision yet on whether he is going to release the club ?
