Default Club statement on "ill-timed" tweet and club's values reiterated

https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/news/st...-recent-events

"Wrexham AFC are aware of the protests and demonstrations occurring in the town and beyond.

In light of the ongoing pandemic, we urge all Wrexham supporters to continue to follow government guidelines.

Last night, a volunteer for the club posted a picture of Wrexham AFC players Akil Wright and Paul Rutherford celebrating after the win against Chester in 2017-18. The players were holding a well-known flag, depicting the badges of two other teams.

It was posted after we received an unprecedented number of new followers from supporters of these clubs. During the evening there were around 3,000 new followers on the Twitter account.

We accept the post was ill-timed given the alleged events in Manchester and have spoken to the volunteer in question. He was reminded of, and we would like to reiterate, the club’s values.

Wrexham AFC condemns all forms of racism, but we do not take a political stance as a football club, and we condemn violence of any kind."

As someone posted on another thread, it says it was posted Sunday but appears was published this afternoon and drafted earlier - Google has not even had time to chomp it up.

Yes but how does a volunteer get to put it on official club twitter , i thought only certain persons could use it . I'm not technical so don't know .

Media team run the social media accounts, all of them are volunteers.

Happy to be corrected on this though.

No, the 'published' time on that time stamp might not be public published time.

Statement refers to 'yesterday' so Sunday needed for that context, but a couple of bits point to it being published this afternoon - and add in the 'updated' time, perhaps to move from draft to public, that would fit.

Not a major point, but it certainly was not done the day after the night before so to speak.

Some of the banners allowed on the Kop would suggest the claim ‘we are not political’ holds little water.

However, willing to accept the volunteers’s act was merely inappropriate and not intentionally sinister.

I've just received a formal apology from the Media Team in response to my letter posted in the previous thread.

For me, that's the end of it. However, others may not be so forgiving.

In terms of the banners, I'm not really sure what that has to do with the club and its stance on politics. People are entitled to disagree with what's on show, but unless you want to curb the freedom of expression of other fans, there is very little the club can do.

Disagree. The club allows the banners, therefore it is accountable for doing so.

Cannot have it both ways.
