Default Retained List (speculation)

With the complexities of the Furlough Scheme, I'd expect an announcement this week. Wednesday is the cut off point for the new revised scheme.

Unfortunately, many fans could also be given some bad news making the clubs fundraising endeavours even more difficult.

So who do people think will be retained?

Given the begging bowls are out I’ll be amazed if we retain anyone who isn’t under contract at this point. I’d there are some we wanted to retain we can attempt to do that as and when a new season is getting underway

Strictly speaking, the furlough scheme isn't really changing in July apart from allowing flexible working (which probably won't be relevant to most football clubs at the moment).

The first additional financial costs to employers arise in August so it's the run up to then when the proverbial could be hitting the fan.

Maybe a stupid question. But do footballers generate annual leave?

Also from an insurance perspective. How are we covered if players injure themselves and are perhaps unable to work/ secure new employment.

Yes the Government are picking up the tab. But surely there are other factors to consider.

They are contracted employees so generate all benefits that any other employee does including annual leave and sick pay. Most of their holiday entitlement will be taken in one big hit at the close season although players on 10 month contracts obviously don’t get that period. They either take it through the year (likely to be the odd day here and there) or have it paid at the end of the contract

Rutherford has probably already signed his contract unfortunately. Another season of watching him run around like a deranged mutt makes me want to vomit.

Given the level of incompetence Keates and the club board has shown us many times I'd expect Akil Wright to be given a 5 year contract with a bonus for every minute of games he doesn't touch the ball, so the cost of this could run into the thousands.

In August the government still contribute 80% of wages up to the £2500 cap but the club now takes on NI and Pension liabilities that were previously met by the government
In September the government pay 70% of salary and in October it is 60% although the employee still receives 80% as the employer is now contributing to the cost

So yes we are likely to release players out of contract at the end of July.

Default Re: Retained List

my thinking is that all players not on a contract will be released, but we may offer one or two a different contract moving forwards to try and re-engage on reduced terms?

similar to what Chesterfield have done
