Re: 'Marvellous' BBC 2 - 9.00 pm Wed 01 July
I obtained my own DVD of 'Marvellous' too - but it's like 'Kes' and the original 'Jaws' - if it comes on TV, despite seeing it dozens of times previously - you just have to sit down and watch it yet again don't you ?
Billy Casper, Chief Brody and Neil Baldwin......quality always shines through and whilst some films and documentary's fade within months never to be heard again, these will keep coming back year after year. |

When I was at Keele in the late 1980’s Neil was a very familiar figure in and around the University and I was privileged to meet him several times and always found him to be an absolute gentleman with a great sense of humour. Marvellous indeed

Like a good artist / a musical concert it builds slowly but do give yourself a few minutes to truly 'bed in' and get into it. Not just a football story but 'human relationships' involving his mother, his best friend and the clergy, and of course the then Stoke City manager Lou Macari who gave him the job as kit man at SCFC - you will be going around for the rest of the week exclaiming ' xxxxxxx is a very good friend of mine'. The performance of Welsh actor Toby Jones in portraying Neil Baldwin would be impossible to be bettered - he was made for the part. |

Similar BillE - please watch it - you will thank me on Thursday morning - of course the local interest adds massively to it with filming taking place within the Racecourse and at Colliers Park - there is also a clip of Crewe Alex's Gresty Road stadium.
