No Phil it wasn't Mike Hughes it was me. At the time we exchanged a few posts and I pointed out that I was not claiming that Bishop was a good player he clearly wasn't. However he was trying to use an accepted technique. Check out the following quotes.
Les Ferdinand
Zonal Marking | Zonal Marking – the book – is out now. Click the book cover below-right for the Amazon link. 2/2/12 "heading good in the air"
"Les Ferdinand wasn't small but qualifies here because his spring and heading technique were amongst the best the premier league has seen, yet he was only 5 ft 11. As he puts it "I was born with it I used to play against defenders who were 6ft 3 and i would out jump them. I just had the ability to anticipate when to jump
and a lot of the time i would get up early."
Ashley Cole "Four four two" Article by Ben Welch 9/3/11
Part of the article "but then I will jump early and try and get elevation off him to win the ball"
So just to be clear Bishop was not a good player. He was not good in the air. He however was not deliberately mistiming his jumps he was trying not very successfully to jump early
