I just assumed the club owned a house and rented it out to players during their stay for less than the going rate as a 'sweetener'.

In a way, yes but I'm sure I recall someone posting years ago that the club has owned a number of houses over the years when they were brought up as assets. You'd think by now they'd be paid or we used a small % of the football fortune we've had from Ward and Taylor to pay it off. I could be way off but I'm sure someone said we've owned a few for decades. That said I couldn't tell you what I had for dinner on Friday.

Can't remember anything being declared about money being used for paying off the house. As far as I know, it doesn't seem to be an asset that gets discussed very often, only as part of some players contracts.
