They can do that, just un furlough them.
If they’ve been on furlough since before early June deadline, you can bring them back for a day / week e.g. and then furlough back if needed. Can’t believe this hasn’t been looked at, as ultimately will generate more income from it, than the furlough payments.

Perhaps the club doesn't have enough volunteers to help out.

Volunteers cannot and should not be doing any work of those furloughed, im not sure how Macron have come to running the store on our behalf without rules being broken.

Could be a big can of worms ready to be opened.

I was perplexed myself with reports of our club staff being furloughed yet we are selling merchandise 'on line' - so it's a direct sale from Macron.

Perhaps for the small number ? of sales involved it is better to keep our staff furloughed and more cost effective for all involved.

HMRC guidelines are not that clear , whenever are they? If one is furloughed from a company you cannot go back to that company to volunteer - YET - they say you can go to volunteer elswhere. Even suggesting that you can volunteer for the civil service !!!
There seems no clear guide for volunteers from outside an organisation undertaking 'work' of someone who has been furloughed. Typical confused Johnson arrangement. Matter was discussed in The Lords where more sense was evident in the debate but even that was curtailed.

It's clear on furlough in that you can not go back to the same job as a volunteer nor have volunteers do that job for fear of job losses.

You're perfectly entitled to work elsewhere or volunteer providing your employers are happy, these can't be roles that have been furloughed.
