https://wst.org.uk/wp/?p=1353

"We have received a large number of resolutions for the upcoming AGM and the Society Board have discussed the practicalities of managing the meeting. We have received nearly 30 resolutions, including those sponsored by the Board, for discussion and even allowing for a minimum amount of discussion we are possibly looking at a six-hour meeting.

This is obviously not a situation that is desirable and may stifle debate on issues that need to be discussed. As a result, we have agreed to call an EGM for Saturday August 1, one week prior to the AGM, where we can debate some of the more time-consuming resolutions.

A notice will be sent out this week inviting you to the meeting and detailing the business to be discussed. We will be in contact with some resolution sponsors ahead of this to ask permission to move their resolutions to the EGM. There is obviously no compulsion on them to do so but it would help us in managing the meeting.

The EGM is as important as the AGM and it is important that members make every effort to attend. The main business of the meeting will be the presentation of the proposed Groves project and details of this will be placed on the website later this week."

Correct, voting is being handed off to a third party to ensure it cannot be subject to allegations of abuse

Thanks. Just found this on a old thread.

The Turf Bowling Club - (1929 - 1977) - Reformed as Gresford Colliery in 1978 – The Turf green is now a car park opposite the Turf Pub on Mold Road, Wrexham.

* And very successful they were, winning 13 of the next 17 Wrexham Bowls Championships.

The Turf Bowling Club had been in existence since at least 1913 dagg.

William Noel Soames had been the Vice President of the Turf bowling club since before the war.

I had put some attachments about it on the history thread some time back, but could never find an actual date when the bowling green was first built. It seems likely that it was built when the ground was improved and the two taverns were joined together to form the current turf hotel in 1912/13, and so would have been opened in 1913, although there is also a hint that it may have been built earlier as the kiosk on Mold Road was already in place in 1909 (see attached). The general shape that the bowling green was built on had been around for a long time and had previously been the turf tavern garden. In earlier times, a timber stand would have been erected each year on the turf tavern garden and dismantled when the races were over. Another timber stand was also erected each year where the mrs is today, until a permanent stone built stand was constructed in 1854

Wayne at The Turf should put a Boule park on the car park. What an attraction that would be.
