The Yummer thing supposedly (*according to my Taid), came from the influx of miners from Staffordshire (particularly Hednesford area, near to Wolverhampton, but also North Staffs) to Chirk, Black Park and Ifton collieries.

Same as Buckley. The population was built up in the area surrounding the ancient settlement of Bistre during the 17th and 18th Centuries when people from the Stoke area moved there because of the growth in industries that used the local clay. Buckley bricks were famous and particularly Buckley mugs we’re exported far and wide. The locals became known as ‘Buckley Mugs‘ and the Staffordshire dialect was still being used by many of the older generation in the 1970’s

Quite a few members of the Nash family living in Chirk and some played/playing football for the AAA’s. I remember Mike Nash particularly, as I had to record his name a few times whilst refereeing!!

Worked with Mike for many years he died about 6 weeks ago,I was told he was a decent footballer and Yes I can imagine him getting booked pretty regular, never remember him mentioning any of his family playing for Everton or Wrexham I thought he would have told me or I have forgotten.

The very imaginative and original ‘’Rhynners’. Never heard any sort of nickname for Gobowen people.

The cuckoo thing was because people from Chirk would hear the first cuckoo, if the wind was in the right direction, from over Ifton/ St Martins way.

A few years back I presume it could have been a footballing day I spoke to a chap who was a ref and I mentioned I worked with Mike and the person said exactly what you were saying that Mike could have been a pain but when the match finished Mike would shake your hand if nothing had happened,I told Mike when I went back to work and he told me who I had been talking to and to be honest he had much respect for them, good chance it was you Ddraigoch.
