Default Chirkites or folk from chirk to have played for wrexham

Earlier in the week had to make a business call to a call centre based on the north east.
Seeing I was from wrexham lady I spoke to said her family was originally from Chirk...also mentioned glynceriog.
Said her grandfather in the 50's had been signed by Everton but later released and then signed for Wrexham.
Said his name was Nash but had a look in the book A to Z of players to have played for the club since 1921.
But not mentioned.
We all know family stories can get embellished..possible signed for Wrexham but may not have made the first team..

I was on a cruise a few years ago naturally talking about Wrexham FC as you do and a guy on another table shouted across that his grandad had played for Wrexham (I looked it up, he hadn't) but there seems to be a trend here that a lot of people out there wished their grandads had played for the town.

It's pronounced 'Chirkers'.

Unless you are from Cefn (or sometimes Rhos): they refer to Chirkers as 'Yummers'.

Last Chirker to play for Wrexham was (I think) Ryan Valentine.

Here's a side issue. Are Monners from St Martins (specifically) or Oswestry (generally)?

Yes. St Martins always Cuckoos and Oswestry were Monners.

As in "Ow are ya Mon"

The Yummer thing supposedly (*according to my Taid), came from the influx of miners from Staffordshire (particularly Hednesford area, near to Wolverhampton, but also North Staffs) to Chirk, Black Park and Ifton collieries.

As in "Yum a rum bugger yo am" or "Yuh munna say dunna"
