I haven't looked at their candidate statements because they all get in by default .In the circumstances asking for approval or not is pointless.

Not necessarily. A candidate who received less than 50% who believes in democracy may withdraw himself. A candidate receiving less than 50% may not withdraw himself but may suddenly look a less appealing option to sit on the club board?
