Default Season ahead

Until very recently, my confidence of Wrexham FC was at an all time low based on the negativity on this board.

Given this board is my only source of information, my views are obviously heavily biased by the posts on RP.

However, over the past week I suddenly have confidence that we will be competitive and that the management and management model may yet prove to be successful. I say this in hope rather than confidence.

Out of desperation, I do feel confident and even being so far away it has improved my mood as I now look forward to next season.

It would be typical Wrexham to succeed when its least expected, and typical that if successful on the pitch, circumstances ensure we cannot take advantage of success due to restricted crowds etc.

I'm going for Wrexham to be in the mix with much complaining about lack of tickets etc. (I say this in hope). I will even go so far as to say we will be in the promotion battle right to the end.

What are your views?

Like you, I was quite disappointed at last season’s events, both on and off the field. I was also expecting the worst for this season.
However, I am cautiously optimistic that we will have a more successful season. Not sure if I would go as much to say we will be competing at the top end, but I am reasonably confident that we should not be hovering around the relegation zone.
My only caveat, as it appears the same with a lot of posters, is the type of football we play (or don’t play). We need to play on the floor and not resort to some of the negative tactics we have seen in the past. Not sure who is at fault for that, but hopefully, they are not repeated.
I still think we need some support up front, a big strong bruiser some people have asked for. Some midfield help would also be nice.
All in all though, I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
Rae

Don’t know where your sudden optimism has come from, signings maybe? But when I look at it only Durrell seems a top signing (for the level), just think if any of our new players signed for stockport or notts would any of them get a mention on here? Probably not.

We have the same coaching set up and negative tactics that gave us our lowest ever finish.

We have players re signing with us who we know aren’t good enough

What’ve mostly the same board members that have made mistake after mistake and take no responsibility or ownership of their decisions.

We have those really odd voting results from the recent WST vote rejecting more transparency and openness to try and build a bridge with some disenfranchised fans.

I am not against fan ownership is just think the current ones in charge have shown in their actions they are not up to the job.

For me a mid table finish is on the horizon....if rumours about Leighton are false, if he goes the something similar to last season.

Personally as i have said i believe all the 'new' signings to be top half. However we need another striker and centre back as well as cover though i suspect they see Carrington as cover for across the back four and in midfield.

Im pleased with the signings, they are of the calibre id expect the club to make which is a nice change after last years uneven recruitment. There are some critical players still to sign though.

Ive got question marks over DK and how we will set up. Im worried about the Goalkeeper situation. Im concerned over how financially secure we are, given the uncertainty over attending games.

Its very difficult to see how the league will pan out. I expect us to be challenging for play offs as a minimum though, although that's what I always expect.

Edit:

Thought some more following comments above.

When you look at Notts Co. and Stockports signings they do compare with ours I think. County have signed Scott Wilson, who did well for Macclesfield a few weapons ago but scored 3 goals for Oldham last season. A Portuguese guy who was on loan at a Dutch amateur club, a Danish guy who played 1 game last season, and someone who played 19 times on League 2 last year.

Stockport have signed some good players. Connor Jennings and Gilmour stand out, but Alex Reid? Was anyone that bothered James Jennings left here? Rooney is good when he can be bothered. Personally I think Reckord is better than Kitching from what I've seen of the two.

Can t see it myself first of all we need another decent striker everytime wxm have got promotion they ve had two strikers playing off each other we need a midfielder ay maker the training is not intense enough hence why part time teams run rings around us fitness wise also keates has nt got the experience to set a team up to win a game or change the ame when we're losing I expect the old sayings to come out like it's a two year plan or they need time to gel bottom half again I feel or relegation

It’s still Early Doors, so thoughts of triumph and disaster are mere bedfellows waiting for the action to start. It’s normally the end of September before we know where our fate is heading; this time it will be the end of October.

However, like our ‘foreign legion’, I too am pleased with Keates’ signings so far. Nevertheless, as a minimum, we still need a quick CB and target-man to have a squad, let alone a competitive squad.

The key will be whether we relegate the usual hoof-ball and instead try to play quick, passing football. Looking forward to the first game, regardless!

At the moment, success depends on Ponticelli and Davies developing into two of the leagues best players.

We know Lainton, Pearson, Harris, Young will provide a solid backbone, but they are not going to be the difference to win matches (though Young does that to a certain extent). If the two young players flop, then it will be a tough season, but if they have breakout season, then supported by that solid core, we could do alright.

In the main the signings seem to be of a better quality than last season with the exception of the resigning of Rutherford, Dibble and the other keeper. Dibbles signing has got to go down as one for the X files as after last seasons displays.

As stated before how we do depends on what style of football we play. Unfortunately I cannot see us changing from the negative ugly hoofball that Keates specialises in. For that reason I think we will struggle. if we got a decent manager in I would say we would have a chance of pushing for a playoff place.

Another area I think we will also struggle is with finances. The board have done so much to alienate fans and another bad season will have more of them turning there backs on the club when they are needed most.
