Macclesfield Town wound up in High Court

Macclesfield Town Football Club has been wound up in the High Court over debts totalling more than £500,000. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54177582

18 hours ago on their official site: "Macclesfield Town are thrilled to announce that Silkmen legend Danny Whitaker has come out of retirement, in order to sign a one-year playing contract with The Silkmen" etc.

It’s not even that much money, overall 500k and they have been wound up over it!

Surely it would of been better for HRMC to receive the money in instalments rather than just shut them down, it’s actually madness!

The same 500k we expect to be down at the end of the season though.

I guess HMRC needed proof that they could make payments and they've not been able to provide it.

Take it we won't have any boxing day and new years games then?

And on the same link the BBC reports that Aston Villa has just spent £17 Million on a goalkeeper. Another town in the UK has just lost its football club, a vital part of its community and its identity for 3% of the cost of a premier league goalkeeper.
Sums up the state and the imbalance of our beloved game. Sadly there will be many more casualties to come.

its been coming for a long time. They will reform and settle where their level of support belongs somewhere down the pyramid.

So what happens now ? Three relegation spots and an odd number of teams in the league or will the National League promote another team (presumably not)

All times are WMT (Wrexham Mean Time). For non-town viewers the time now is 04.27:38.
