Default Matty Sargent

Signs for Salford City. Another young player totally mistreated by us, hives out on loan, next to no opportunities to play for the first team and released.
Keates is totally the wrong man to have in charge for our youth to get any chances

Will be interesting to see how Sergeant gets on. Can see where you're coming from re DK and youth based on past record but Bickerstaff v much involved this season and expect to see more of Cleworth too with the Pearson injury so maybe a case of wrong place wrong time wrong position for MS?

Matty Sargeant is the rule not the exception though Ben... We have neglected our youth system for a while which is surprising given how formidable it once was. Be interested to see the revenue year on year it has generated over say the last 15 years

Big difference is Salford have somewhere to play and develop him - their 23s.

The big issue is no pathway post 18, no 21s, no 23s, no reserves.

Tranmere have 18, 21 and 23

This.

It's been said before many times - there are only 10 outfield places to fill (plus subs). Especially in the current climate how many players can we take on ?

I watched Matty Sargent playing on loan last season at Airbus UK - granted he was part of a poor team but I don't feel he stood out whatsoever to the point where if I was DK I would want to retain him. This could apply to many others of course but we live for the here and now given our purse strings - throw the kitchen sink into financing the best first team squad possible or dilute it and hope some of the youth come good and make it.

Regardless of who the manager is, we have seen a revolving door of young players - a manager given the chance of playing an experienced season'd older pro who has a few years under his belt is going to take the safe option at this level unless there is a youth with exceptional quality - Bickerstaff through injury to others might get his chance tomorrow night - but he better take it whilst the opportunity arises because he wont get many chances.

Hopefully if takeover goes through the youths can be revamped so this kind of situation stops happening.

Agree with this too, whilst there is evidence that DK himself is not a huge advocate of youth, our club is not set up to bring on anyone and the most talented get picked off cheaply and early anyway

Keates doesn't ask for reports on how loan players are getting on, it's a kick to the stomach I'm sure seeing younger players of other sides coming in just to sit on the bench.

I completely support our youth structure but i can only be honest and say if i was a manager on a relatively short contract why should i care ? A manager will never be marked on what he does other than results. It is the job of the board to take care of youth policy etc.
