Some say the finest football seen on the racecourse was under the management of Ken Barnes.
Arfon Griffiths for leading us to the promised land of Sivision 2....

Afron Griffiths - Prince of Ales or Wales.

Well he took up the mantle - he pulled off two master strokes in signing Dixie to replace King Billy and Dai Davies - he got us into the Championship (second division) and as a teenager enabled me to see home games v Brighton, Leicester City, Newcastle United and West Ham United etc.

A generation later I feel so sorry for the likes of my son and others of his age group having to watch the same club pit their wits v Boreham Wood in a 3 sided decaying empty stadium - and still he wants to hand over £10 to view the game on line.

Well seen some very good managers but most have been dross. Don't think I could name a top ten best managers, but maybe a top 5.
John Neil
Arfon Griffith's
Ken Barnes
Bryan Flynn
Dennis Smith
Honary Mentions to Jack Rowley wasn't here very long but some of the football his teams played was very good. And Alvan Williams who brought half the Southend team up here including Eddie May.

Personally Cant argue with that list, teams built on attacking football, for the most part. Great days.

Anyone who can get us promoted from this hell and give our kids (and grandkids now) the experience's we had, will get on that list as well.

Yes Dave, you are right. We old timers have been very lucky.
There was a magic about watching years ago (Footie generally but the Town in particular ).
It has diminished over the years, but still get a buzz when match day comes.
