Default Re: So which is the best team we can put out?

Lainton

RHJ
Vassell
Kelleher
Reckord

Harris
Young

Jarvis
Durrell
Davies

Yussuf

Pearson in when fit. Ponticelli competing with Adi for the shirt.

We've got a talented squad on paper. Durrell is a bit of a conundrum as I think he's our most creative player and puts some great balls in, but I don't think he's got the pace to play out wide. I'd play him as a number 10 and give him freedom to create, no tracking back.

Also see our midfield as being a problem area. Harris and Young are both good players but lack physicality and will be overrun, as happened on Saturday. What I'd give for a Brad Walker type player.

Just doesn't matter though does it, can argue what our best 11 is all day but Keates doesn't have a clue how to get them working together anyway, they looked like they'd never played with each other before Saturday.

Feel like we could have the best squad in the league and with Keates in charge we'd still mount a relegation battle. His tactics are negative and when even that doesn't work we don't have a plan B besides lump it forward.

Honestly so depressing having him in charge as I don't even care what team he puts out anymore as it'll usually end in the same disappointing, turgid shite he always offers up.

Harris and Young will never work as a midfield 2. You need someone who can play the holding midfield role in there.

Lainton

RHJ
Kelleher
Pearson
Reckord

Harris
Horsfield
Young

Ponticelli
Yussuf
Davies

Subs:

Me
Vassell
Jarvis
Durrell
Bickerstaff (only because we should have a striker on the bench and Kwame Thomas doesn't fit that definition for me)

We never replaced Brad Walker. We badly need someone in that position. We also need to give some players a go (like Horsfield) at this point.

We seem to be all midfield with no real threat out wide. Davies needs to play out there on one side.

I have a horrible feeling we won’t see Davies play for a while after being dropped by Keates.

Same here. It looked as though Keates attributed a good portion of the blame for the Maidenhead defeat to Davies and showed it by not even giving him a minute against Wealdstone.

How does he fail to get in ahead of Rutherford? Barmy.

I hope you are wrong but that would be a bonkers decision. You don't know whats been said behind the scenes either they could have had a fallout.

Chasing the game and we made one sub?

The Rutherford situation is madness, I understand the "squad player" thing, but he isn't a squad player is he really as he has started the majority of our games so far. Rutherford getting a game completely sums up Keates attitude. Playing bottom of the league away from home we need quality on the pitch.

The question is how many players can Keates and co ruin before they're booted?

We do have some players who could develop given better guidance, but will they even want to be here by the time this guidance arrives?

I don't think we can attribute this to the one player. Most capable sides tend to offer the right back cover when they bomb forward, which is something RHJ likes to do and it usually leads to a decent looking attack. We need that defensive midfielder there to sit in deep when the full backs get forward and provide support to prevent us getting hit on the counter but at the moment we are left totally exposed in that position whenever it happens which means the best part of RHJ's game is taken out of him as he cannot get forward as often.

If Horsfield isn't up to the task of playing at CDM, perhaps we would be better off going 3 at the back, allowing RHJ and Davies on either side to attack with the back 3 being made up of Vassell, Kelleher and Reckord until Pearson finds fitness. Perhaps something like:

--------------Lainton--------------

---Vassell--Kelleher--Reckord---

RHJ----Harris----Young----Davies

--------------Jarvis----------------

--------------Yussuf---------------

Subs:

Dibble
Cleworth (cover in defence)
Horsfield (cover for wing backs and CMs)
Durrell (cover for Jarvis)
Ponticelli (cover for Yussuf)

Pearson could either slot in the back 3 when he's back or provide cover.
