Default A cautionary tale

Having read through the paperwork and seen the early poll I thought I'd mention this.

In the EU referendum a friend of mine who was a Remainer told me he’d voted leave. I was puzzled and he explained he “didn’t want remain to win by too much”. He had some reservations about the EU and “didn’t want it to look like all was great by having too big a remain majority”, was his reasoning. He was shocked the following morning when he found out the result. This was a lesson for him not to overthink any vote or second guess what might happen.

75% is a high bar in any vote (unless you are Lukashenko in Belarus) and there may be more “silent/shy” no voters around than we care to think. They may not want to make their voices heard on here or in general (who would blame them for keeping a low profile?). So please if you think, overall, it is a good thing (even if you have reservations) just vote yes. Don’t worry about the margin of the majority being “too big” or assume for one moment it’s a done deal and that it won’t matter how you vote. I fully appreciate hardly anyone sensible would have the mindset to think this way, but with every vote counting and a big majority needed, I thought it worth mentioning this story in case anyone overthinks or assumes things and later regrets it..

It's not done until every vote is counted so let's leave this in no doubt.

[Disclaimer: this is not about Brexit – it is just a story to help make a point]

I do think everyone should push to make sure everyone that wants this to happen and is a member does vote for it.

Let's not take anything for granted. Exactly.

If you know someone who's on the fence. Help them over to YES

Good point.

It's essential that everyone eligible who wants the sale to go through votes YES.

Do not assume it's a 'gimme' just because it seems so obvious.

Cast your vote and make it happen.

Yes indeed! He is at the same time the smartest and most stupid person I know. Has a PhD in Physics but overthinking (or deep thinking as he would call it) led to some great decisions but also stupid mistakes..

So I worry that there are people like him out there who have a vote here!
