Where are they now?

As we approach the end of the Trust's ownership, I thought it would be interesting to see how the other clubs in the National League have fared during our time under Trust ownership.

Believe it or not, out of the 24 clubs in the division since the trust took over (2011/12), we're the only one who hasn't been promoted and/or relegated since.

One is in the Championship (Luton).
Three are in League One (Newport, Lincoln, Fleetwood).
Five are in League Two (Mansfield, Cambridge, Forest Green, Grimsby, Barrow).
One is in the National League (Stockport) but spent six seasons in the National League North.
Eleven are in the National League North/South (Kidderminster, Telford, Southport, Ebbsfleet, Gateshead, Darlington, Alfreton, York City, Bath City, Braintree, Kettering).
Two are in the Southern Football League (Tamworth, Hayes and Yeading).
Of the nine who have been promoted, at least four have had very significant cash injections (Newport, Fleetwood, Forest Green, Barrow). Cambridge sold their stadium for £3.5m. Two other clubs had smaller cash injections (Lincoln, Mansfield).

The standout, for me, is Luton Town. True, they had the advantage of large attendances and a strong heritage in the higher divisions. But they won promotion as a part-community-owned club, and generally did things the right way. Sadly, they're the exception, not the rule. There are VERY few of these clubs who have been successful on the pitch and off it – which proves what a difficult job we had to get out of this league.

A good read. Rushden & Diamonds, Darlington and Chester City all went bust and subsequently reformed at one level or another.

They were in the Northern Premier that season, which they won coincidentally! (The only thing they have won for around half a century...)

So 10 teams have have done better than us since that time if you include Stockport who are above us in the league at the moment. That puts us 11th..and our current position is??

Obviously we're the longest serving member of the National League / Conference at the moment. I wonder whether we've got the most consecutive seasons in its history?

Stevenage were in it for longer, but they won the league and were denied promotion.

Re: Where are they now?

The OP’s point is teams in this league only during the 11/12 season, otherwise the list would be massive.

Luton are a much bigger club than us who have top flight history and have won a major honour, Kenilworth Road has held them back. They were always naturally going to go back up the divisions once they sorted themselves off the pitch.

I was surprised by that, so I decided to put my anorak on and ran some other stats - of all the teams in the Conference Premier each year Wrexham have been in it from 2008 to last season, Wrexham really are the only team to have not been promoted or relegated at all. Everyone else has gone up or down, or both in that time.
Of the teams promoted up back into the EFL since we've been stuck down here;

1 is currently tier 2 / Championship - Luton
6 are currently tier 3 / League 1 - AFC Wimbledon, Bristol Rovers, Burton Albion, Fleetwood, Lincoln, Oxford United
13 are currently tier 4 / League 2 - Barrow, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Crawley, Forest Green, Grimsby, Harrogate, Orient, Mansfield, Newport, Salford, Stevenage, Tranmere
2 are right back where they started tier 5 / Conference Premier - Barnet, Torquay
1 is below in tier 6 / Conference North - York City
and 1 sadly is gone altogether - Macclesfield
Is masochism engrained in Wrexham supporters ? We are on the cusp of a brave new era and we want to put on our hair shirts and self flagellate.

Lets clear out the misery and the poisoned dwarf and move on for Christ's sake.
