Did we? I thought it was decided to sell in order to pay the debts earlier.

They also tried to shift Knight-Percival on that January, but he'd signed a pre contract agreement with Peterborough unwilling to pay.

I think we're saying the same thing on Obeng - he was sold to pay some of the £450k debts left to us by the previous owners. The FA Cup run also helped us to do that too.

Peterborough came in for NKP in January but we turned their bid down, hoping that he would help us to go up and that would be worth more than their offer. We didn't and he joined them on a free at the end of the season.

Edit - more info on NKP here - we turned down a six figure sum: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/17605637

There's no denying it's going to take a lot of time, money and good-will to rebuild the CoE.

Think once we get into the league the COE becomes a different kettle of fish. Much more funding available to compensate for the fact that clubs can come in and take our promising players away for a small amount or even for nothing.

Once we get away from WST ownership the COE becomes a different kettle of fish you mean.
They are wholly responsible for ruining it and its once great reputation.

This is just more of you trying to divert blame. Its getting tiresome, it really is.

Well the dust has had since Wednesday to settle and Steve Cotterill ex Brum and Cheltenham amoungst others and out of the job since march '18 has had time to write an application, be shortlisted, have an interview and be appointed.
Must have some cany Directors at the Shrews.

As I remember it we had no real need to sell Obeng at all, the mistake was not having him here for the remainder of the season.

Selling Fowler is what cost the club promotion, not because he couldn't be replaced, but because of how that would've given Fleetwood a massive confidence boost.

Obeng - I think at the time we had debts, Swansea came in, and he wanted to go. I remember the consensus amongst most was that it wouldn't be fair to him not to let him go, as it was a big step-up to go from the conference to the Premier League. At he time it was the second or third highest fee ever paid for a conference player.

Looking back he and us probably both regret it - it didn't work out well for either party.

Fowler - yes, that was a mistake. He forced the issue, compared us to Gola and Fleetwood to Adidas, said he wouldn't play for us, and so we took the £45k. It would have been better to just not play him rather than strengthen them.

A staunch Shrews supporter told me that Ricketts left because he was worried we wouldn't have enough resources to match his ambitions!! Oh dear!!
