Stood there during 1960s with my Dad, top left, big step below the snack bar.
Best memories - probably second half of the game v Boston United

My brother used to take me to the game but we could only afford for one to go up so he used to make me wait by the barrier closest to the stand until after the game and never to tell my dad !

I seem to recall in the 1950s early 60s that the paddock didn't have any crush barriers at all. It didn't have a cover either and the rake was so low the view when crowded was poor. In those days the dig outs were that side and changing rooms next to the then gym. Seems I have moved on from the kop, -sorry. Can 1926 confirm?

Pay your shilling and with a small stone in your pocket go up into the stand. Then wrap the ticket they gave you around the stone and drop the ticket to your mates. We could get about 4 of us into the stand before they cottoned on! I was about 11 at the time, happy days.

You’re right. Definitely no barriers and no roof, so you got wet. Also, unless you got to stand at the back you couldn’t see much which for a kid like me wasn’t much use. The front was about five foot below pitch level!

Remember standing on the Kop years probably early 80's with my Dad and little brother. back in the days when the crowds really dropped off - I think there was about 1200 there for a Saturday game. Anyway my bro is sat on one of the stanchions on the Kop and suddenly just falls backwards and lands with a thump on the concrete. Much hilarity from those around us on the Kop (when it was clear he wasn't injured) about him falling asleep. Some happy memories of standing on their down the years but its been an eyesore for so long. Looking forward to watching a game from their again soon in its new guise.

Great story! But I remember it being empty most of the time.

The white elephant stand formerly on the Kop went to Wrexham Rugby Club I believe.
Would some of these old stanchions make good prizes in the Christmas Draw? Auction them off even!
