Steve was a hero to me in my youth, thought he played for Wxm a lot longer. Memory obviously fades with age. RIP Steve.

Correct. JN came with AW from Southend to be coach.

AW was also a former player, as well as a former manager known as "Alvan the Tiger" in his playing days !!!

R.I.P. Steve.I remember especially scoring against Spennymore United in a F.A.Cup match away from home.
The Spennymore defence kept backing off and Steve hammered home from about 25 yards bottom left hand corner.I wonder if Dave Davies remembers that one.Compliments of the season to you Dave.

R.I.P. Steve. My abiding memory of Steve was a very foggy day against Port Vale at the Racecourse. John James the PV o/s left was no shrinking violet and I believe there was a little history between them. Ingle tackled James "firmly" and James was slightly miffed. The game continued towards the Vale goal and Ingle and James started some fisticuffs. Now it it was foggy, and the ref couldn't see what was going on, but the linesman noticed and started to flag furiously. Eventually the ref noticed and came over to the lino, by which time Ingle and James had stopped fighting(having seen the linesmans flag)and were jogging towards the halfway line. They both stood still with butter wouldn't melt expressions whilst the ref ticked them off. They then proceeded to kick lumps off each other for the remainder of the game. Final whistle, handshakes and arms around shoulders as they went off. Proper men. I had a great view as I was a ballboy and allowed to sit on the paddock wall by the old dressing rooms.
