Billy’s goal was fab, as was Whittle’s screamer at Villa.

So many great goals!

Alan Hill away at Magdeburg in the ECWC. He swivelled and hit it hip height, into the top corner. He played full back most of his life, so I don’t know where he pulled that one from. We lost.

This is a personal one, and I am sure there are many other goals scored for the reds which were more spectacular, but for me one of my favourite goals was scored by Billy Ashcroft in a 2-2 draw away to Oxford in the 1976/77.

The ball was crossed to the edge of the 18 yard box and Ashcroft headed it into the top corner of the net. We were stood directly behind the goal and it is still one of the most powerful headers I think I have ever seen, and despite being so far out, it nearly ripped the net off.

OMG - as posted earlier that is also mine and i am glad someone else remembers it ! If there had not been a net it would have ended up in Cambridge !!

In those days it was more difficult to get up to date scores as well and we were told Crystal Palace had lost at home, a score that would have virtually secured us promotion, so after the game we decided to head to London for a night out.
For a couple of hours we were in heaven until we got there and bought a late edition newspaper that showed they had actually beaten Lincoln 4-1.
Still had a great weekend though.
