Apparently the Ward money wasn’t wasted, just not spent on the first team.

Can’t wait for people to still be banging on about the WST in a decade when we win the Premiership. I was a member and voted for the takeover. I did my part.

Wasted on what exactly.

That’s what everyone should be asking, the budget was 1 million and only a small fraction extra went to Hughes. There’s a huge black hole somewhere that nobody wants to speak of.

If the club earns x and it budgeted for x, with higher gate receipts the bank should have money surplus, as x used to be budgeted at around 4000 fans.

For arguments sake 4000 fans was the budget, 1500 extra was our last average attendance being 5500. 1500 x 15 (I get some could be children, and tickets prices vary so Iv meg in the middle) 1500 x 15 x 22 (not including cup games) is £495,000 which weren’t accounted for in a budget, if we still budget at 4000 a game.

To conclude, we received Taylor money, ward money and an extra £495,000 for increased ticket revenue one season ... before covid.

What the hell happened!

Last season's playing budget was 1.3 million if I remember correctly from the AGM slides.

In answer to your question, it was wasted on salaries for lower league journeymen.

Once the takeover has been completed, and the WST are no longer responsible for the running of the club, we WST members must raise a motion for the WST to explain where and why this small fortune was spent. They must be held accountable for how they managed our financial resources. They may have valid reasons but, then again, they might not. Nevertheless, it should be explained, and lessons must be learnt. After all, the WST will still have an important role after the sale, albeit in a non-operational one.

But that scenario was within sight if there was no takeover now. So that spin is flawed. The club blew millions of pounds on nothing and from looking at several posters forecast of the financials (WrexhamO's was the main one that stood out) and some basic maths, we would have been in serious financial trouble either this season or next. It was only a matter of time when you consider the WST had lost thousands of fans and with the pandemic.

The myth that the 'club was well run off the field' has been blown apart in recent years. I'd assumed that penny had dropped with all but the lager club massive.

Well run clubs don't have to go begging for secret loans or not have anywhere decent to train. Or plan for a training ground with no money to pay for it. Or appoint managers like Hughes and Keates and Barrow and Mills and allow them to run riot.
A badly managed/run club will always be reflected on the pitch.

Look back at where we've finished in the league under the WST and come back and tell me that's a well run football club. The only time we were competitive, truly, was with a Moss/Saunders squad and very briefly under Ricketts and they couldn't even keep hold of him for one season.

When the takeover was voted for there were attempts to rewrite history from some pro wst lunatics who had dropped their WST forever stance like a hot potato when they realised the club was fcked if it carried on as is.

So they attempted to rewrite history on here but it was easily seen for what it was straight away and many have crawled back under their wst beach towels.

Anyway, now that I've put things straight lets move on.

These numbers are a fair bit off. We've budgeted for crowds larger than 4000 for quite a few years and the average attendance was 5154. Also we get between 10 and 11 pounds per ticket on average.

As for where the money's gone, this has been done to death and it's all in the accounts. We've thrown it away - I forget the exact figures but spending on players went up about 400k and a similar amount on stadium costs and infrastucture.

Similar to Fieldtown Red, it just hasn't been spent well. Had it been spent well we'd be having this discussion as a League club!

The turnover of managers hasn't helped and maybe if the club used the money to keep Keates (in his first spell) or Ricketts we would have built on the short term successes.

Not sure it's that easy to move on , some want the WST to be involved in the new set up , and also who knows if in 5 years time the two R's may want to return the club in some form, would you want that scenario . I think PD is right , when takeover done it should be known what went where and who allowed it .

I think it's plainly clear that people will not move on. Should we have success under the new owners, it will be in spite of the Trust members...the same members who voted overwhelmingly for the deal!
