Spencer Harris resigns - effective end of Jan

Statement not loading as per usual, thus just title so far.

Re: Spencer has resigned

Statement does not say why

"The Wrexham Supporters Trust are sad to announce that Spencer Harris has tendered his resignation as a Society Board Member.

Speaking about his resignation, Spencer said: “We are nearing completion of the change of ownership to Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. The last few months have been really difficult for me personally to balance all aspects of life.

“I wish everyone at Wrexham AFC and Wrexham Supporters Trust all the best for what I’m sure will be a really bright future. I’d like to thank all members for their support over the years and especially the last nine years that we have been running the club on your behalf.”

The Society Board would like to place on record our thanks for Spencer’s tireless efforts towards the Club and Trust over many years, especially during the months of negotiations in the ongoing takeover.

The resignation will take effect as of 31st January 2021. As part of the transition Spencer will step down from his Club and Trust duties with immediate effect, whilst at the same time handing over the elements he has been leading to other Society Board Members. Spencer will remain on the Society Board until this date in order to vote in favour of the deal but will handover all of his day to day responsibilities.

Wrexham Supporters Trust wishes to reassure supporters that his resignation shall have no impact on the completion of the sale of the Club, which is progressing as planned.

To replace Spencer on the Wrexham Supporters Trust Board, we are delighted that Club board director Phil Salmon has accepted a co-opted position for an interim period."

Phil Salmon co-opted to replace him on the WST Board meaning the club board is now 100% WST Board, for the last few days of ownership.

Re: Spencer has resigned

Concentrate on the table tennis career now.

In all fairness, trying to do what he does and have a full time job and family, not surprised. I’m sure he has tried his best, it might not have been what others would have done. Hopefully he can happily get back to just being a fan of the club.

All credit to him for putting his weight behind the takeover.

Bats again to blame for another problem at the club.

Agree with this. Deserves praise for steering the takeover and also for his commitment over the years. Lots of decision making errors made but chwarae teg where it’s due.

Does this give us a hint that the takeover will be completed this month? Seems odd timing for him to leave before seeing the job to conclusion otherwise.

Its not a hint, it's effectively stating that it will be done soon, and members' will be voting on the final deal by 31 Jan at the latest.

Members won't be voting on anything else - we've already had our last say. It'll be final ratification from the board.

He will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes of the current mess and have a plum role as part of the new regime.

Personally I think R&R will score an almighty OG doing so from a PR perspective ... there’s a lot of people myself included who will never forgive Harris for bringing Keates back for a second term.

I will gladly piss all over the ashes of the club to stop Spencer returning in any capacity.

Huge fallout?

I believe this club will be stronger with Spencer involved. Not as the CEO but being a conduit with the Welsh Government in terms of securing a new Kop stand and maybe the training facility be it at the Groves or somewhere else.

There has been too much water under the bridge for Spencer to have the day to day running of the club but for us to be successful, it will need a team of directors.

Everyone is entitled to opinion, mine is he should have nothing to do with running of club once everything has settled, he or WST have failed once, please not again. Clean slate n new staff top to bottom for me apart from Geraint n shop staff

Not a chance , only 3 more to go now Keates , Davis and Darlington then I will be happy to get I volved with the club again. Harris and Co tried their best but was a disaster and managed decline year and year.

There has clearly been a falling out of some sorts behind the scenes.

He made many catastrophic mistakes during his time and I am no fan of his but he did put his head above the parapet when others didn’t and he does deserve credit for portraying the club in a professional light during the takeover.

I hope he’s not involved in the new set up, albeit I think he could do some good with the community element (well away from football decisions).

You don’t need anyone on the club to be liasing with welsh government as the lease is held by the WST so that is a function of the WST board post takeover

Re: Spencer Harris resigns - effective end of Jan

Get the feeling he's impressed R&R enough during negotiations to bag himself a spot within the new regime hence he's giving himself clear space to vacate before the takeover is ratified.

I can't see it being CEO for 1 second though. If it is I'll be shocked to say the least

I may be wrong and he's getting out full stop but I think he loves the limelight too much to miss this opportunity

Was under the impression the transition period would be longer than to the end of January.

Seems like there's more to this.

'Elements' an interesting word to use, frustratingly the woman who met the CEO of Wrexham AFC at the Maelor still can't remember his name. It did sound like Spinster Harris to me though.

The blokes a bit of a b*****d, but he may be of some use in a non football capacity. I’m sure there’s way better than him anyway. But if he’s away from the football side of things, which surely he will be as he’s useless with that then I’d be okay with it. Prefer him to go completely tho & in the statement does say all the best to the club for the future?
