The first game I was taken to in the 1950s was Wrexham Schoolboys v Bristol Schoolboys.I also went(we were given the afternoon off at Acton School)to Wales v Austria in 1954.I became a regular attender at home games in 1956.

March 1962 a friendly against a Danish club called Bronshoj Boldklub, it was a midweek game after the 10-1 win over Hartlepool. My Dad took me and I was 9 years old.

I thought the referee looked like my primary school teacher, the reason being was because he was, it was Neville Jones.

We got promoted that season from the 4th Division along with Millwall, Colchester and Carlisle, and it was the season Accrington went bust and their league games expunged.

I was a regular from then on, always seemed to be long queues into the boys entrance on Crispín Lane, and I’d make my way round to the boys pen at the Yale end.

It was the last game.of the season against Northampton (think it was 86/87?). I have a feeling we lost and Northampton were promoted...could be totally wrong. I was hooked and persuaded my dad to take me to every game for a long while after that..
Was still a regular up until the end of Mills stint..then picked and chose as the football was not a main priority.
But still listened on the radio.

1965 v Fulham in the league cup. The days of Albert Kinsey, Keith Webber and Steve Stacey. My neighbour, Nev Dykins, used to take me in his brown Morris Minor, we’d pick up 4 other blokes in Gas Lane, Mold and chug along to the ground.
Does anyone remember the sand pits either side of the goals, could never understand why they were there?

Default Re: When did you start attending matches regular?

Like a lot of others my Dad used to bring me as a small kid, first season was 68/69

The only early games I remember well are Port Vale and a game against Aston Villa (on and off the pitch).

I was one of five so it was great spending time with my Dad, just the two of us watching our local team. Glad I have those memories.

Started going regularly and went about 18 years without missing a home between 1975 and 1983 before paying the mortgage meant working some Saturdays.
