Ker has stressed the importance of communicating and keeping Reds' supporters up-to-date with things that are happening behind the scenes at the third oldest club in the world.

What a simple, but great idea. It’ll potentially get the Leader more clicks/views/reads, but also updates us fans.

Wrexham executive director Ker launches weekly update
By Richard Williams @LeaderRich
Humphrey Ker

WE are delighted to announce that Humphrey Ker will have a weekly column in the Leader.

The British comedian and writer instigated Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds' takeover of Wrexham Football Club while he was working on the former's hit show Mythic Quest.

The rest is history as the actors have become owners and Ker, their 'man on the ground' at The Racecourse, has been appointed executive director.

It is the start of an exciting new era for Wrexham and Ker has stressed the importance of communicating and keeping Reds' supporters up-to-date with things that are happening behind the scenes at the third oldest club in the world.

After asking if he can address fans via the Leader, here is Ker's first weekly column:

"It has all really kicked into gear as of the time of the takeover.

"We are busy behind the scenes looking to improve and strengthen the structure of the club.

"It is not the glamorous stuff that tends to make the back pages but it's the stuff that we think will make the club stronger in the long run.

"It is starting to power up the business side of the club, the structure that supports on-field activities which has been run as best as it possibly could by the Wrexham Supporters Trust but we are blessed with some more resources and some more combat experience as part of our team.

"That will hopefully allow us to put things onto a footing that will allow us to be successful in the future.

"On the footballing side of things, we are looking at bringing in some players on trial that have been released elsewhere.

"We are still looking to strengthen the first team squad through players that are coming to train with us.

"Because we are the only National League club that is bound by transfer window rules, we can't just bring players in wily nilly.

"But we do have a few players that we are planning to bring in on trial over the next couple of weeks to see if they can strengthen the current squad, or be players that we might be looking to bring in at the end of the season for next season.

"That is on-going, we are not resting on our laurels when it comes to strengthening the first team squad.

"We are meeting today with the Racecourse Community Foundation to talk about strengthening the relationship between the club and the Foundation.

"We are also planning to rename the Racecourse Community Foundation to the Wrexham Community Trust because we want that relationship to be much closer and more symbiotic than it was previously.

"We are really delighted by the response to the takeover Aviation Gin.

"We hope it is the first of many commercial relationships that we can strike now that will be to the benefit of the club.

"We have got more gin coming so anybody who wants a bottle, they are on their way! I think they are on a boat at the moment from America."

I like the way he doesn’t bad mouth the WST when referring to the previous way the business side of the club was run, it shows professionalism and augers well for the future.

“It is starting to power up the business side of the club, the structure that supports on-field activities which has been run as best as it possibly could by the Wrexham Supporters Trust but we are blessed with some more resources and some more combat experience as part of our team.”

Interesting read and is incredible that already Ker's proven the "a takeover will make things less transparent" theory wrong.

Be interesting to see who is on trial. There's not going to be many players worth getting who are free agents weeks after the transfer window closes but with any luck we can find someone.

I can't see them releasing the accounts to the fans in the future.
