Tipped As Manager

Humphrey Kerr’s weekly, boring column with no content.
IT was a great day on Tuesday because we were visited by Fleur Robinson, our new chief executive. She came down for the first time to meet the permanent staff and be given a tour of the ground for the first time since she last came here with Burton Albion many years ago. Fleur can't start work until June 1 unfortunately but Burton very kindly gave her the morning off to come and see everybody. It was fantastic to show Fleur around the building because she is such an important part of what we are looking to build here. We've been working very hard behind the scenes to find the right CEO and we were so delighted when Fleur agreed to come in, and it was great to see her actually in the building finally, as it is something we have been working towards for several months now. We worked with a sports executive recruitment company - Paul Nolan Partners - and they helped put together a list of people that they thought would be a good fit for us. Fleur leapt out at us from a field of excellent candidates, due to her experience at Burton in so many aspects of the business that we want to bring to Wrexham. ne of the things that is exciting about this, and I think that is reflected in the statement that she has made, is that it would take a lot to get her out of a job she was doing at Burton where she has been for many, many years, working effectively for the family business. She recognises that this is a very exciting opportunity so we were delighted that she was willing to come and join us on this journey. I was delighted with the 2-2 draw against Eastleigh given the difficulties we found ourselves in, being down to 10 men five minutes into the second half and 2-1 down. It is great to see the determination that this group of players and manager have, to never give up and never say die, and keep working hard to the final whistle. I am particularly delighted because we dedicated the game to the Young Carers Card Day of Action and the profits from the stream to three fantastic organisations that are working as Young Carers: WcD, NEWCIS and Action for Children. We are delighted to use the football club and the platform we have to help what we think is a really important case in our community. Admittedly, we may have to dedicate the profits from the next stream to paying the fines incurred, but I don't think anyone could describe it as a dull game! We have been looking to supplement and improve the players' food, working in conjunction with Nick Barnett our former head of Sports Science and Jess Jones, Head of Catering. Our belief is, in the world of football, good nutrition is key to ensuring the best performance on the pitch. I can't credit our second half performance against Eastleigh entirely with the extra vitamins they have been eating or whatever it may be, but that is something that we want long-term to ensure our players are supplied with the best nutrition we can to get the best out of them. One final piece of news is that a refit of the club shop is underway, as the club looks to give it a bit of a refresh in advance of next season. We thank everybody for their patience while we do so and promise the place will be unrecognisable when fans come back in. Or at least, as unrecognisable as a 40 foot by 20 foot space can be. Now, Bring on Bromley!

Looking towards the CEO starting, improving the players nutrition and supplements, and refurbing the club shop.
Constant move toward a more professional club. Long may it continue. |
