Jarvis
French
Hall-Johnson

Not Under Contract Next Season - Jury's Still Out, 11 Games To Play For Contracts

Pearson
Vassell
Reckord
Young
Thomas (Not sure whether we can judge how his injury is progressing by the summer, but if it looks like he can still play at least half of next season I would consider signing him on albeit on a reduced wage)

Not Under Contract Next Season - Release

Redmond
Durrell
Rutherford
Carrington
Dibble
Harris
Horsfield

That leaves a max of 13 players left plus youth players, leaving us room to make a whole new first team worth of signings if need be.
This is a fair list I’d go with this but I like carrington. Not the best player but his versatility is worth a squad place

With respect, those player have played pretty much all season (and more). If you're unsure whether they should be retained or not then you never will be.

Also, why does it matter if we're lopping Thomas's wages? If anything, a decent thing to do would be to honour his salary until he's able to earn (based on medical advice).

I get your first point, though I'm going off our current contract situation where we are effectively not offering contracts out until the season is closed out. I think there are some players who have done enough to justify a contract provided they don't put in a string of 0/10 performances from here on out and a few who no matter what they do, I would let go. Those in the maybe column range from almost being granted a deal in my eyes (such as Vassell) and those who need to put in a string of excellent performances from here on in to be considered for a deal (such as Reckord). Pearson has barely played this season so these last few games will be a good benchmark to see where he's at post injury, I think he's a prime example of a player we cannot make a decision on until the end of the season.

As for Kwame, I'm not looking for us to do the decent thing here, albeit it's not me who makes the decisions and given the good nature of our owners I suspect he will be given a deal on similar terms as to when he signed. I guess my logic was that a player who couldn't give us any minutes until January wouldn't warrant the same wage as a fully fit player of similar ability and if he were to leave us he would struggle to find a club until he was fully fit, making him signing for us on a reduced wage all the more likely. That is probably not the most moral thing to do here though, and morals will probably play more of a part in decision making going forward.

We've probably overpaid massively for the likes of Durrell and Harris. Two experienced players at the level who would command a decent wage, but are quite clearly well past it.

We're also paying Redmond a fortune to do nothing. Genuinely could have signed one of the best players in the league for the wage we're giving him.

Pearson is also probably earning too much for a centre half.

And God knows if we're still contributing to Bobby Grant's self-renewal contract.

The money was there for a solid play off finish. Just not been spent wisely enough.
Yep. Surely the average wage bill in this league must be lower than previous years as well.

Factor in the R and R money, feel good factor and bonus system, then not even Mark Griffiths could make a solid case for keeping Keates and this lot if our season sizzles out as looks likely.

Good employers look after their unable to work staff, usually part funded with employer insurance. I would hope that the WST had put decent insurance policies in place to cater for such events as Thomas’ injury, it would really depend on the T&Cs of said insurance.

As you mentioned regardless of anything else, I think our new owners and CEO will do the decent thing and offer him a contract of some sort.

Absolutely. Also, this injury isn't career ending. He's only 25 and on the strength of the last few months I think he's got something to offer.

With those things in place we would be paying him less then, which would be a good thing. We pay him less, he gets his full wedge while he works on his recovery. Wynne Wynne.

So you did not hear Mark Griffiths and his puppet views on Keates on the Torquay mixr then.
