Well Barrett and Thomas played games in league two so I have no doubt young could, particulaly if promoted with us. The point remains though if it's true that there aren't many better midfielders at this level than young, why is he still at this level? Why haven't a league 2 gone after him when his contract expired, or a team in our league with more money.

He may be our best midfielder, but that is best of a pretty mediocre bunch. He has some good moments but rarely dominates a midfield over 90 minutes. I would be happy for him m to get a one year extension, but wouldn't lose any sleep if he was released.

Absolutely this.

If Young is a regular starter next season we won't win the title and that has to be the aim.Cut out the play off lottery.

He wouldn't have got in the 98 point side and they finished second.

Got to be ruthless this summer.Squad player at best for me

Didn't Joe Clarke and Jamie Tolley play a good number of games that season? He's a better player than both of them..

He isn't better than a prime Harris, Keates & Fowler but that was an excellent midfield for this level. All 3 could've been playing comfortably in the level above.

This is what is needed. Sadly, after too many years in decline, fans’ judgement on the quality of our players and management team is questionable.

We will be able to judge the new ownership’s judgement vis stated intent once this season is over. With 11 games left, it ain’t over yet; but it soon will be unless we start winning games.

Harris and Young can help make that happen, and that would make them appealing to other NL clubs next season. It’s worth everybody at the club busting a gut to gain promotion, regardless whether they are here next season or not.

You answered your own question.Keates, Harris and Fowler were first choice.Tolley and Clarke back up. Young is back up quality if we're going for the title which we will be obviously

Luke young isn’t good enough to play in league two. He’s not mobile enough, lacks statue and gives the ball away far too often. We’ve had worse players at this level, we’ve also had better players. He also captained Torquay to relegation to the Vanarama South.

I agree with other posters who think if young is a regular starter, we won’t be competing at the top of the table.

What question is that If? If you honestly believe the league is currently at the level it was that season then you might have a point. I would say you won't find a midfield in the last 2 or 3 seasons at this level that would even scratches the surface of what we had in the first half of the 11/12 season. It isn't really a fair benchmark to use.

My point about Clarke/Tolley is completely valid in my opinion too, as Fowler left midway through.

I don't want to die on this hill of Luke Young being good enough for a promotion chasing side, I even have him in my maybes for next season but I think when assessing his ability we need to be fair.

Young is easily good enough for a title winning team. He's not good enough to be the best midfielder in a title winning team

Another unfair point to make. Idrissa Gueye was a part of Villa's relegation from the Premier League but was key to PSG's win over Bayern last night.
