Re: Ratings vs Halifax Town
He played alright - albeit against a very poor Halifax performance. The space they left at the back was incredible. Jordan Davies clearly stole the show.
Ruther’s in 95% of games runs around a lot. Similarly to Durrell, only slightly quicker minus any goal threat. Let’s not start pretending he’s good enough for a promotion side. I think some RPer’s are getting slightly carried away with last nights result. Nobody can knock a 4 nil win but Halifax were atrocious. They simply didn’t turn up. We were awful against Stockport and Hartlepool in particular. Should we make the playoffs, do you really expect us to beat either of these away from home? If we get into the playoffs everything can happen - but this is not a good Wrexham side, even at this level!!!! |

Re: Ratings vs Halifax Town
Ever since he arrived at club, I thought that Ruthers was not quite up to the job. On the pitch, he reminds me of an annoying fly ! Last night at Halifax, every Wrexham player played well as part of a team. That’s what we want. Halifax were poor last night, but they still have to be put to the sword.
As we all know, we have struggled against the clubs that matter - Sutton excepted. With approx 10 games to go (if we reach the play offs), we have to play every game like we did in 1992 against Arsenal. Pssst - that’s not going to happen, is it? |

Should he be first choice? No, and I think that's why he got the stick he did over the past few years. We've not had a consistent top-level (at least at this level) winger for years and this season we've not often played wingers so Rutherford's participation this year's been minimal - and we've had a replacement boo boy until recently in Durrell (who I'd take two Rutherfords over personally). We've had wingers with more natural talent than Rutherford like Jordan Maguire-Drew, Rekeil Pyke and Mark Harris but none of them were ever even remotely consistent for us despite being better players on their day for whatever reason. I do get the people who don't think he's good enough for a promotion winning team. But, he does have the right attitude and sometimes that can be valuable behind the scenes. I feel the same way about Carrington. Last edited by Lods; 14th April 2021 at 23.27:32.. |

Football is a squad game, you don’t always have your first choice 11 available so need to turn to players like Ruthers and Carrington when injuries, suspensions and certain match situations arise, you know they are not world beaters but they rarely let you down.

Re: Ratings vs Halifax Town
These backups you speak of, like Carrington and Rutherford, have started a significant amount of games this season. Rutherford was a shoe in at the early part of the season when we were struggling, and Carrington kept out Pearson against Stockport.
Understand its a squad game completely, but these are players that wouldn't be in anybody else's promotion chasing team. |
