I have little reason to think he was lying, there are plenty of questions marks over his ability as a manager and his attitude towards Wilkin post Morrell. However, I have seen nothing of Keates to suggest that he's a liar or that he'd stab people in the back.. no doubt he was difficult to Wilkin straight to his face which is why Wilkin doesn't bad mouth him now.

It has become increasongly clear that the WST repeatedly deceived fans over the clubs financial ability compete, hiding behind vague financial statments which no doubt counted every cost possible under 'playing budget costs'.

After everything we have been through if were just told the truth... just told that our income gave us a mid table budget and we have to work with that or risk the club with debt.. no doubt it would have been a little depressing, but the fan base would have managed expectations rather than epic dissapointment year on year, this is the greatest shame the WST must carry.. When the fans finally took control we were under the impression we would have the most transparent club possible.

We saved the club and deceptively went on a managed decline (when the fans should have been told) All we got was flakey statements and well meaning spin, which ultimately is still damn lies. Thank god its over and we move on, our club still exists and our fanbase is growing, the WST served its purpose despite these disgusting revelations.

All Hail R&R!

Which then lead to more pressure on the mangers over the years.

Looking forward to seeing the calibre of players coming in this season with the money behind us now.
It was pretty obvious that the playing budget was being reduced during the tenure of WST. But who decided it was going to be hidden from the membership?
Was it a unanimous decision by the Hierarchy?
Or was their any board members with integrity who thought the membership deserved better?

Perhaps should have been at the front of the queue for Vice President when you consider he chaired the trust, many hours worked for nothing and contribution to the clubs history.

There was nothing managed about the steady decline. The skill sets required for it to be managed were sadly lacking.

Devils advocate: Spencer was right that announcing publicly the budget was cut would lead to a race to the bottom as people stayed away knowing the team wasn't able to challenge.

It was out of order to hide loans etc obviously.

On the other hand, people might have raised funds to make us competitive. Got involved more,if the reality of the situation was laid bare. Instead of it being portrayed as being all rosy.

Fair point actually. But I don't think getting the begging bowl every year would have gone done well at all. The Keates 'Build the budget' is a once every 10 years type thing or you lose a lot of goodwill. People would have said, we played Stoke, final of the FA Trophy, why should we raise money. I do see your angle though.

I am sure the initial build the budget idea was turned down by the board for some bizarre reason
