I’m guessing either they thought he was winding up the crowd too much with his celebration, or the Stockport fans complained to the police about his choice language to them in retaliation. He doesn’t actually specify!

Can't help feel like a little old pro's clique disrupted Wilkins tenure and didn't give him a fair chance.. Ashton didn't like how he binned off Ormerod, yet he replaced him with Moult... The threat of younger faster replacements always causes friction in a workplace!

The Keates final sub was a silly decision but I'm not sure sacking him did much good for the rest of the season, he clearly has an eye for talent and has gone back to being a well respected talented part time manager at Brackley who always look a good prospect for promotion on a small budget. With a crap WST budget I think he's a great manager to extract the best bang for buck.

Ironically he won the FA Trophy with them in 2018

Think these lines from an MEN match report at the time may explain it. He got a bit verbal with their fans (understandably) and I seem to recall some of them tried to get to him.

Not sure how all of that’s his fault given what was said to him but in my experience of away days at Stockport, Greater Manchester Police have always been a bit OTT.

Wrexham went in front nine minutes before the break when Paul Turnbull needlessly shoved over Chris Westwood and Ashton netted from the spot.

Having celebrated in front of the home fans, the full-back then took centre stage after the break.

There was a booking for timewasting at a throw, followed by a couple of further clashes with County fans.

Basically confirms players and Darlington turned on Wilkin and he never had their support from the offset. The board clearly were OK with this given that nothing was ever done about it.
