I suggested him during the close season as captain, and got absolutely annihilated on here!

Congratulations Luke, you have earned it.

Again, it isn't Luke Young's job to worry about sitting back and turning the ball over. He's an attacking midfielder. The problem last year is that we didn't really have a ball winner to sit behind the midfield. Jay Harris supposedly fitted that role but was hardly effective.

I like Luke Young as a player and a person, but not sure he is captain material. The club seems really short of leaders. It doesn’t matter what talent you have on board if there are not enough leaders; they are essential for any chance of success.

As the box to box midfielder in a midfield 3 (with whoever will be wearing the no 6 shirt as the defensive mid and Davies as the attacking mid) Young is more than good enough for a title challenging conference team. Previously he’s had to do all 3 roles at times and play with a defence who struggled to find a red shirt.

I agree, I don’t think he’s captain material at all.

I would have prefered to see him play less this season with that area of the pitch strengthened. Others seemed to suggest that would happen but this suggests it won't.

The captain role is pretty much ceremonial nowadays anyway. If we get a talker/leader signed, they will lead regardless of whether they have an armband or not.

Although I’m pleased for Luke, l would have preferred a big imposing central midfielder as captain .
