Minor point, the Magic Number to ensure a Play Off place is presently 45 not 44, I'm sure you will appreciate why without me explaining.
Coincidently, 45 is the exact number of points available from our remaining games, not that there is any correlation between these figures. Last edited by Hamilton Pathetic; 28th February 2022 at 11.05:37.. |

I beg to differ! To ensure a playoff place, we must finish above the 8th place team based on maximum possible points. On PPG, that team is currently 7th (Solihull) but the current 8th place team (Bromley) have the higher potential maximum possible.

Re: 2021-22 Like for Like Stats
You may beg to differ but that doesn't mean you are right. Nowhere in the clarification of the Magic Number does it mention PPG positioning and I quote the clause in case you haven't yet read it (BTW 'assuming' has only got 1 'a').Therefore to be assured of a Playoff qualification we need a further 45 points.
There are 4 magic numbers to indicate what is needed to guarantee automatic promotion, secure a bye to playoff SF, secure a playoff QF spot or avoid relegation. It's a number which should decrease steadily (rapidly would be nice!) through the season. It is derived from opponents' maximum possible points, our current points and our games remaining. e.g. to guarantee a playoff spot we need 1 point more than the maximum that the 8th placed team can get if they win all their remaining games (aasuming we are in the top 7 - if not then we need to beat the7th placed team). If you want to rewrite your rules midway through the season, O.K. but all we punters really want is consistency throughout the season. |
