Re: Foul language.
The lad who sits behind me occasionally let's rip with a barrage of swearing in the heat of the moment. When my daughter is with me (which is now pretty much every game) -he usually apologises to both of us and it doesn't matter how many times I tell him not to worry about it he continues to apologise.
It's a sensitive issue, but I think with kids being ever more present online, with school and other social environments I think it's highly unlikely that most kids can go a childhood without being exposed to swearing. My daughter, if asked will tell you our rule - "what you hear at the football stays at the football". Instead of worrying about what other people say I try and teach her to not use bad language, not to worry too much about what other people say and to speak out when she sees other people spreading hate or being nasty to others who feel they don't have the same voice as everyone else. Not justifying other people's language use, I'd be a hypocrite to do so... This is just how I've dealt with the situation. I've got a potty mouth for sure, but I make a concerted effort not to use bad language in the presence of children but can't always say id have done this before I became a parent...in my case it was a lack of consideration and had someone have pulled me up on it in years gone by I'd have hopefully reacted in a respectful manner... Try speaking to the individual if you feel safe to do so, then as others have suggested leave it with the stewards or report it to club. You don't need to make a ridiculous sneaky video as suggested, just report the seat number and comments made. |

Re: Foul language.
let him without sin cast the first stone, at times when the football dictates i can utter the odd blasphemy which is greeted with a stern glare from my grandson, most people do it, when an open goal has been missed or the opponents score, when a blatant foul is commited and especially when not punished by referee, in the pub after, on the phone to mates, we all slip up, or most do

Re: Foul language.
Amazed at the number of people who think ‘having a quiet word’ with someone like this is a. Going to help and b. A good idea.
Had a ‘quiet word’ with a one eyed (literally) guy who was shouting racist stuff at a pre season friendly a few years back. That went very badly. |

I also have limited faith in the stewards to deal with this. Reporting to the club is probably the only way to elicit a response but it doesn't provide any immediate solution nor does it guarantee anything at all would even be done. |
