Re: Away support back in the day
The best away support (numbers wise) that I've ever seen in a league game, has to be the Sunderland fans on a May bank holiday in 1979. There must have been at least 7,000 of them in the ground.

There must have also been at least that amount of Liverpool fans there, as well, in the 1977-78 cup tie (tech end, Mold Road paddock and a few on the Kop).
Was that the game when the Sunderland fans were on the pitch celebrating promotion and was it Stoke who scored a late goal to go up instead of Sunderland.

Yes, that was the one. Stoke pipped them by 1 point, with, as you said, a late late goal at Notts County.

Except that I was one of them , I got my ticket from Anfield as I was living and working in Liverpool in those days , had to keep quiet though.

First time I can remember the Kop being taken over was 26th September 1970 when Aston Villa beat us 3-2 in a League Division 3 match. The attendance was 18,335.

The Kop was full with Hereford that day ,not that they were given it just took it, i walked in last minute not realising I was 1 of very few if any wrexham supporters on the kop, didn't escape scot free.

In the 70s both home and away supporters would occupy the kop on many occasions, can remember chester Cardiff port Vale and many others.

Same could be said for the tech end as well. It would look full of away supporters and then we would score and you could see loads of Wrexham fans jumping up and down in there.
