Default Match Announcer and " One of our own "

Does anyone else get irritated by this reference ( to Davies this time ) ? It's as if one of our team needs to be differentiated from the rest i.e. an inference that the others are strangers we are 'tolerating' . It just doesn't sound very welcoming nor very encouraging to the other team members.

Just wondered whether there are any similar views out there ?

I dont think its intended that at all, more a celebration that a local lad has come through the ranks. Find something else to be offended by!

It is cringey but it’s the same people who do bilingual announcements and play Yma o Hyd at every opportunity.

He's woeful. I understand why we had to put up with when the amateurs were in charge, but there is really no excuse now to keep him on.

Seeing as most the ERS were singing ‘he’s one of our own’, it’s hardly surprising it’s said by the announcer too. I really don’t think Tozer is crying in his pillow at night because JD gets a special song.

It's more a celebration of a local boy done good rather than alienating the rest of the squad. We haven't had many local lads consistently make the starting 11 in recent years.

No matter who the match announcer is, I wish they would turn the volume down in the middle of the MRS. When the music started at 1.30pm it was ear splitting, they turned it down ten mins after yet I saw loads of people even then holding their hands to their ears, and so it went on til KO.
I’ll go all Victor Meldrew now too and ask why do we even need music in the 90 mins before KO? And all kinds of announcements made at 2pm when there’s only a couple of hundred in the entire ground?
I think Pre KO is a time when a lot of fans want to chat about the game, etc etc, I can’t imagine there’s many who prefer to listen to Oasis and RHCP?
Sorry to sound like a moaner, well I AM a moaner, I know, busted.

As for the One Of Our Own thing, there’ll always be two sides / opinions.
It’s a bit unwelcoming and uninclusive for the non local players,
But equally it’s just light hearted and a pat on the back for local talent coming through.
