Question Re: Grimsby (A) Ratings

Has anyone thought of the defence passing it to a midfield player and giving them a chance to play forward. I agree sometimes you have to clear the ball but try passing through the midfield and let's see if we can create something for the forwards instead of hoofing it upfield.

Agreed, our tactic seems to be hoof or hit the wings fast. I don't think Young was great against Woking, but the ball was bypassing him most of the time.

At the same time, I never see our midfielders moving into space and demanding the ball from our defence. They are happy to stand still and let the defence hoof it forwards.

It’s a whole structural problem in our team and I think has been for a few years now.

Have you ever seen Young drop deep asking for the ball off our CB's a la Lee Fowler or Brad Walker ? That'll be a no

The reason he won't do it is because he knows he can't pass water so easier if he turns his back and watches the CB's launch it.

As a CB there's nothing better than a midfielder in front of you who always wants the ball. Takes all the pressure off you.

The midfield is our issue......again

Again, what are the tactics? Is PP demanding Young etc drop deep to receive? Surely after this many games we would have seen evidence that that is how we are set up. I’d understand if it was 2/3 games in. But here we are and not seen or heard any kind of tactics for the centre mid to drop deep to receive.

Is Young just following instructions? This isn’t a ‘Young is amazing’ post but we’ve had enough games to see how we’re set up - and it’s not with a deep lying playmaker. You might say he hasn’t got the personnel. But even Bryan Hughes tried Rutherford there, it was clear what he wanted. Or are we supposed to believe that PP is telling Young to drop deep and he is quite simply ignoring him?

so... you're saying... bring back Ruthers, yes?

someone also advocated re-signing Harris last night.

In fact maybe just revert to last year's team and manager yeah

We should be doing everything to try and get Jacob Butterfield here until Jan at least.

Played at championship level up until very recently, before heading to Australia. He's back now and been training with Doncaster for fitness.

He seems the best of the options which are available to us tbh.

Agreed, Doncaster are not looking to sign him.

Emyr Huws also played Championship football in 2021 and must be better than the current options available (Redmond etc).
