Having spent a lot of time travelling up and down the country and staying in hotels due to work I can say that when I’ve traveled for 2 hours plus on the day prior to work it often feels like I’ve done a days work at the end of the travel. Even if it doesn’t involve any driving or changes.

When I’ve stayed in a hotel the night before I feel much fresher going into work the following day.

A 2 hour plus journey before a game is a disadvantage.

Also some players may have had a journey to make before getting onto the coach.

Okay I will break my silence. I do not have the stats to back up my claims. It’s more from gut instinct which you may say is about as much use as …. [ you can finish as you see fit.]

When I have found out the club has stayed overnight my confidence in the team getting a favourable result has taken a knocking but have never made it known until the following day. Once I have had time to think back on the score / stats / performance [ can only really judge this if watch the full length game] then I can determine if was worthy of staying overnight on a monetary level and team bonding level.

The Monetary level is something which isn’t as important as it is when we were supporter run. I was really only highlighting how much on average over the course of season it could cost compared to travelling on the day.

Why do I pick 15 years? I am going back 15 years as this is the time I have been following the club home and away. Taking last year out of the equation for obvious reasons. I have not been able to go to away games as much in the last 3 seasons due to work reasons.

For me and I guess this is the argument for and against on this thread is that I would much rather commute go to my workplace on the train and come back the same day than staying overnight.

They would emerge like square eyed zombies to go for a team walk around the hotel grounds with Jose at the front.

Did it work for Spurs? not really https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5ECdi_2XT0

I'd love to know what PP does with the players during these overnights. All I've seen so far are team walks along the Prom in Southend.
Thanks Wrexy. Interesting viewpoint.

No, never been sacked by J R Boyle (or even JR Ewing come to that), it would be a complete pane to be sacked by them I'd imagine, but it should be an open and shut case, I could see right through them

Hotel stays, especially early on in the season will help new players bond more with each other and existing players. It's okay having more talented players but a tight-nit, family style mentality can't harm.

Think we should stay at the Ritz before every game then drive to the match from there.

Fine wining and dining, soft Egyptian cotton, and early silver-service.

Sure R&R could afford it.
