Huws and Butterfied

Two names that are free agents and have league one experience. I know they probably want to play in a higher league but we did tempt Mullin .
Although l love Young’s undoubted commitment he does look lost , and in any other team would probably be dropped.

Are they defensive midfield types?

I'm luke youngs number 1 fan, and he would be much more suited to the advanced positions occupied by JJ and Davies (note his role in the build up on tuesday). He is playing in the defensive mid spot because he is the only one we have who can 'do a job there'. we need a specialist, with Young playing there on occassion.

From what I have seen this season, Luke Young simply cannot do a job in the defensive midfield spot.

A square peg in a round hole, but not his fault as I like him.

Yes exactly this, looks like we might have missed out on this player in the window and hoping that Young can do it (which he can't).

It would be Dave Jones for me at the moment, with Young/Davies/JJ/Mcalinden in the other two spots.

Jay Harris would be a good punt in the next transfer window.
I dunno why people keep dismissing him when he could easily be a squad player.

Huws isn't really a holding mid. Good passer etc but not the ball winning type we need in the middle.
Don't know much about Butterfield

And he's not played for how long?

Luke Young isn't good enough for a promotion chasing team, and our midfield really is 1-2 short. That said, punting on Emyr Huws (who really is made out of glass) or a guy who has been playing in Australia is almost certainly not the answer.

Hopefully we'll have two tenacious midfielders lined up for January and Luke Young can fade away.

Listen to the podcast with him - he's walking wounded. Doubt he has the fitness levels to play at our level.

His days of performing regulaely at this level are over. Weve all moved on.

Also he's signed for Warrington

Heard he was training with a Lge 2 outfit recently but failed to get a contract as in his first trail match he pulled a muscle getting changed and didn't feature!

Why Dave Jones?.....do we need the pitch ploughing? IMHO he is past it, way to slow in movement and thinking and wouldn't cover the ground needed to be bossed as a CM general. On last Saturdays showing (however brief) he is very lucky to be in possession of a seasons contract, hopefully he will be concentrating more on the coaching side of things rather than playing, otherwise we really are in the brown stuff.

I think we're stuck with what we've got but we'll do some business in January. I think it's always been obvious where we needed another couple of players, so I'm hoping we grind out a run of wins and stay in the hunt until the next window.

What's your fascination with Jay Harris? His legs had gone last season never mind this. If he was so good, don't you think another VNL team would have got him in?

Why do we need squad players?

I 100% agree with this, at the end of the day, we have released Jay for a reason.

Joe Ledley is looking for a club. He was on the Elis James podcast saying he's still really keen to play. I'm sure we could tempt him here.

Not really the sort of midfielder we need, but I'm sure he could do a job as a sitter. You'd like to think his football IQ would be good enough for this level.

Frankly, because I think he is the most suited of a bad bunch to play there.

It's not great, but this is what we have until January.

Apparently we need 6ft 9 and 25 stone ‘enforcers’ to go around smashing skulls so not required.

The only free agent name that sticks out for that position to me is Darron Gibson, released by Salford in the summer, but he's got a history of attitude problems and broke his leg last year.

Still, technically a Premier League winner with United and has experience higher up.

Huws and Butterfield could be a detective TV series. Huws is murdered during an investigation but returns as a ghost. Butterfield is the only main character able to see or hear him.
