Re: Alan Fox
Alan became a friend and attended a good few matches at the Racecourse in recent years. He was a lovely man and sadly his wife Jean passed away a few months ago. Alan came originally from Halkyn, and although he had been away from the area for many years, he was still homesick. He had developed a thick Geordie accent having married a Geordie lady and having lived in Hartlepool for many years. On a family visit to Wrexham a few years ago, Alan asked if there were any Male Voice Choir concerts taking place and in fact the Rhos Male Voice Concert was taking place that evening. I managed to get him and his family tickets and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Alan was Welsh to the core no matter how long he had been an exile. I kept in touch with Alan on the phone, and always enjoyed our chats. A few months ago I was due to meet him and his family in Chester but wasn't to be. Alan will be missed by many. RIP.

Re: Alan Fox
I loved watching Alan Fox, master of the slide tackle. He rarely missed a game during his time at Wrexham - terrific player. He was a member of the first Wrexham team I watched along with Aly and Arfon RIP
Some years later I was helping a student friend conduct a study of tackling in football - block tackle, slide, reverse etc. Alan happened to be playing for Hartlepools at Chester that night. I said we just had to go. Alan didn't disappoint. |

First Teamer

Re: Alan Fox
Very sad news.Alans displays will be etched in my memory for all time.He was in the team when I first started to watch Wrexham in 1955 when as a young lad of 13 used to travel from Upton to Wrexham Exchange.I remember one old timer saying to me “ If they get past Fox it’s a goal “.
I am myself an old timer now. How time flys. God bless you Alan R.I.P.

Re: Alan Fox
Very sad to hear this. Was one of my favourite players when I started watching Wrexham in the 50s. When they played with a proper ball. If I remember right, it was Davis (4) Fox (5) George Evans (6), in the old style 2,3.5 formations in the 50s, on that historic day in 1957 against the Busby babes. I tried to copy his sliding tackles on the school field, but there was only one Alan Fox. Rest in Peace and thank you for the memories.
