Sadly, the Fox you were thinking of has also passed away, 9 years ago, aged 54.

Alan Fox was slightly before my time, but my old fella spoke very highly of him. RIP Alan and deepest condolences to your family.

Spoke to Alan's daughter on the phone this morning. Sadly Alan died of Covid. It's still around!!

Alan Fox was also one of my boyhood Wrexham heroes. A stead centre half and as others have said a great exponent of the sliding tackle.

Some years later I was helping a student friend conduct a study of tackling in football - block tackle, slide, reverse etc. Alan happened to be playing for Hartlepools at Chester that night. I said we just had to go.
Alan didn't disappoint.

Yes I remember that team as well. I remember one game where Alan sent a clearance straight through first floor window of the Turf . RIP

We tend to use the term 'legend' a little too much but Alan was a genuine legend. I never met him but he sounds like he was a really nice chap - he was without doubt a great Wrexham player.
